Political stability

Monaco enjoys exceptional political stability, underpinned by strong governance, a tradition of neutrality and more than 700 years of uninterrupted rule by the princely family, guaranteeing a historical continuity that is unique in Europe.

Security

Security is a key pillar of Monaco’s living environment and attractiveness. Thanks to an effective surveillance system, the Principality has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. It therefore offers a safe and peaceful environment that is particularly favorable to entrepreneurs, investors and residents.

Taxation

The Principality applies a ‘light’ tax regime for individuals, based on the general principle of no direct taxation, including inheritance tax on real estate. There is no wealth tax, property tax or housing tax in Monaco. The only direct tax in force is the tax on profits applicable to industrial and commercial activities.

Healthcare system

The medical services available include several healthcare establishments renowned for their excellence on the Riviera. There are also numerous high-quality healthcare services available in the city, covering all healthcare professions. Finally, the home help service enables elderly people and those with temporary or permanent disabilities to remain in their own homes.

Education system

In the Principality, education is compulsory from 6 to 16 years of age. From the age of 3, depending on availability, children can also attend nursery school. The Principality’s educational establishments (9 public schools supplemented by private establishments or those run by specific entities) are accredited as ‘French schools abroad’.

The Monegasque education system has specific features such as intensive English language teaching from nursery school to the final year of secondary school, an international stream and a European section open to upper secondary school pupils. Some schools have a ‘French as a foreign language’ section to facilitate the integration of non-French-speaking pupils.

Living environment

In the extreme south-east of France, on the Mediterranean coast, between the sea and the mountains, the Principality of Monaco enjoys an exceptional geographical location.

The mild climate, modern architecture and prestigious international events have encouraged tourism since the end of the 19th century. The recent development of business tourism and the expansion of its diversified economy have also consolidated the Principality of Monaco’s position on the international stage.
