Olivier Mailliard, “A strong desire to support Monaco’s economic development”

2015-03 Olivier-Mailliard

For the first time, in January 2015 the Caisse d’Epargne Côte d’Azur set up in Monaco, opening a business centre as a branch. Meet its manager, Mr. Olivier Mailliard.

For two months now, you have been managing the Monaco branch of Caisse d’Epargne Côte d’Azur. What is your background?

After university I began my career in financial auditing, specialising in banking and insurance (with Mazars then KPMG) before joining the General Inspectorate of the Caisse d’Epargne Côte d’Azur as senior auditor. I was then appointed head of customer support at Banque des Décideurs en Région (Key Accounts), then manager of a business centre, and finally in January manager of the Monaco branch, to which Caisse d’Epargne Côte d’Azur (CECAZ) wealth management is linked.

Your training was highly adapted to Private Banking, yet you chose an all-purpose bank

In 2007, I joined a banking group and company undergoing great change in order to adapt to its economic context. I found that challenge exciting and I don’t regret it. I was able to do four different jobs, from central services to front office, which was a great opportunity. The all-purpose bank is changing very rapidly and provides really important development opportunities as we operate in all banking activities.

CECAZ had been absent from Monaco for a long time

Indeed, although the bank has a strong presence in the Alpes-Maritimes and Var with its 150 bank branches and particularly 4 business centres (we have also opened two property centres and four asset management branches), Monaco was the only area from which we were physically absent, even though we already had Monegasque customers in France. The CECAZ business plan is primarily based on proximity, with an executive board in the Côte d’Azur which manages the establishment, comprising four officers and a chairman, Mr Christophe Pinault. The Monaco business centre is associated with Mr Jacques-Olivier Hurbal, the board member in charge of Banque des Décideurs en Région, to which are also linked four business centres, wealth management and property management.

What is CECAZ in Monaco?

A business centre with two activities: supporting businesses, SMEs and large companies, to which we offer our banking products and services; plus professional property support, such as property development or estate agents. In the second half of 2015, logically we should offer our professional customers private banking services.

And your ambition?

You can feel the dynamic economic development in Monaco. Our ambition is to support it. Both through commercial and industrial companies and through development players or estate agents. Our vocation is also, with the support of the BPCE group and Natixis, to position ourselves on major projects, such as the extension into the sea, for example.

What is your first impression after these two months?

The very warm, friendly and good-hearted welcome from the Monegasque authorities, who have shown an interest in the CECAZ business plan in Monaco. I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks for this welcome and for the advice given by the various representatives of the Principality of Monaco (Employment Services, DEE, CCAF,AMAF etc.).
